I Wish It Was Christmas Today

Aside from the usual sniveling X Factor offering and all that bizarre Rage Against The Machine Facebook-driven downloading, Christmas Number 1 contenders are looking a bit thin on the ground this year. I, personally pine for the days of 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' and 'Last Christmas' when it was all about the gratuitous sleigh bells and home-knitted jumpers. However, I do find myself seasonally excited by 'I Wish It Was Christmas Today,' a rogue entry from the Strokes’ Julian Casablancas into the 2009 Christmas ring.

Casablancas' offering was originally performed by Horatio Sans, Chris Kattan, Jimmy Fallon and Tracy Morgan on Saturday Night Live but JC has doubled the run time and added a good dose of his own rocky flavour to produce something as refreshing as a mince pie smothered in vodka sorbet and with plenty of sleigh bells to boot. The track is due out on 21 December as a limited 7” or you can download it on Itunes or as part of Casablancas’ album Phrazes For The Young.
