In line with the current trend for big haired, carrot-topped popsters, Swedish wunderkind Erik Hassle seems poised to scoot up the charts with his selection of emo-electro ballads and beats. 'Don't Bring Flowers' is the singer's British debut, an anxty, synth-strewn teenage rant, musically in the vein of Friendly Fires, particularly the opening which is identikit to 'Jump in the Pool.' 'Hurtful' is the track currently kicking up a storm on Spotify and with its big Coldplay drums, confessional vocals and slightly edgy vibe, it wouldn't be entirely surprising if this was the track to take the fickle 'king of cool pop' crown and plant it squarely atop that huge red barnet. Musically, Hassle sits somewhere between Frankmusik, Sam Sparro and the big easylistening emotive appeal of Coldplay although it's not quite clear yet whether he intends to pitch for total pop stardom or retain some scenster credibility. Either way he's certainly a talent worth keeping an eye on - although you won't really be able to miss him with that hair.
