Paris 2010 RTW Autumn

The Balmain RTW Autumn 2010 collection is the way I intend to be dressed come Autumn. The gold lame maxi, slashed to the waist with signature structured shoulders, chunky belt and calf length lace up boots would be perfect for a trip to the newsagent for a pint of milk and a copy of something trashy. I’d wear the purple and gold swirl patterned shimmering sequin, rough-edged minidress with black calf length button up the side boots on the bus on Monday morning to sweep away those Monday blues. The gold version, slashed at the side I’d save for Tuesday, repeatedly the worst offending day in terms of sleeping through my alarm, breaking a heel, forgetting my bank card or getting rained on. And the floor length black sequined gown, slashed to the waist and the thigh would be perfect for those forced appointments that no one looks forward to like the dentist, job interviews, blind dates that sort of thing.

If I couldn’t get my mitts on Balmain I’d certainly settle for Chanel Shanghai – perhaps the high shine version of the traditional Chanel two-piece accessorized with a slate green dragon. Or any of the structured jackets, some with tiny collars, others without, some a feminine take on the aggressor with roses sewn over padded warrior garb, others more traditional tailored creations, some lined at the edges in rustic plaiting or futuristic blue padded silk. I’d take any one of the kimono gowns or the breath-taking floor sweepers, including the red-throated, liquid skirted creation so recently downmarketed by Lily Allen. Finally, the jewellery, the elaborate jade green neckpieces and the below-shoulder length chandelier earrings would make Fall just that much brighter.

Isabelle Marant’s cropped cigarette pants and structured shouldered tops, leather belts and gold and sequined selections would brighten up many a winter’s morning and Stella McCartney’s pre-Autumn beige capes, giant paisleys, seductively revealing lace and fabulous sequin creations will certainly banish the S.A.D. As far as the Paris RTW 2010 Autumn shows so far are concerned, given half the chance (and a fairly substantial lottery win) these will be my 2010 Autumn 'basics.'
