Them Crooked Vultures - Supergroup

There's a whole heap of hype surrounding Them Crooked Vultures. Unsurprising I guess given that the group is the bastard offspring of Nirvana, Queens of The Stone Age and Led Zeppelin. Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones of those legendary names (and several other incarnations besides) have succeeded in living up to the hype-inducing labels slapped on by the press and the sound of Them Crooked Vultures’ self-titled album just screams Supergroup.

All those years of touring and studio time, adoration and rock bottom, addictions and revelations, it's all there in the tracks. Not explicitly of course, but woven through the music like a Tapestry of Rock. I am so pleased with the results of this amalgamation of legends, it could have been a soul-destroying, cynical disaster but it's not. The album is rock with a real pedigree, it just makes you want to be a man on a stage with a guitar. Although in terms of years of combined experience of its members, the group might be one of the oldest around, in comparison with much of the talentless crap we are subjected to on a daily basis it sounds distinctly fresh.
