Still on the subject of Christmas songs (well it is the season), today I heard a gorgeous cover by Florence and the Machine of the Wham classic 'Last Christmas.' The original was pretty heartrending in that way that reminds you of staring at your DMs at the disco when no one wants to dance to the slow songs with you but with Florence's distinctive vocals it takes on a life of its own. I don't know if it was the hilarious fashion choices and relatively cheery 80s drum pads of the original that kept it from being too much of a tearjerker but sans the shoulder pads and with those superbly emotional vocals this cover is a cracking example of a good bit of festive melancholy.
