Of all the shiny new electro-pop offspring spawned in the past year or so The Sound of Arrows is the most sweetly thrilling. Outrageously heartening and unapologetically uplifting, their music draws on a pop style and light electro beats partnered with some seriously heartbeat boosting crescendos and unusually folky vocals. Into The Clouds might actually lift you off your feet like one of those smiling cartoon characters its so ridiculously happy and the video is an inspired cross between the old Cities of Gold cartoons and a Friday night Hoxton dance floor. M.A.G.I.C is like a frothier, less gnarly version of Justice's D.A.N.C.E made by the Pet Shop Boys and A Very Sad Song sits somewhere between Frankmusik' s unceasing confessionals and East 17's Stay (although that might just be the church bell noise conjuring that connection). Knitted together through the shared experienced of trying to make a Christmas song from a sampled youtube video of a children's choir (as you do), The Sound of Arrows may have been around longer than their ridiculously fresh faces would have you believe but it's only now that they're starting to edge to the front of the pack. The release that everyone is getting in a tizzy over is Into The Clouds (on Neon Gold - out now) and in particular the Fear of Tigers remix which just shoots the track off into a stratosphere of flashing lights and sparkly silver stars. Aaaaah.
