LFW AW 2010 - Day 1 - Hakaan and Sass & Bide

Winner of the “Young Fashion Designers Contest” organized by the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporter Associations while he was still studying fashion design at University, fashion overachiever Hakaan was a highlight of day 1 with French Vogue’s Carine Roitfield reputedly jetting over just to catch his show. I imagine she’d have been pretty happy she made the journey for the space age tailoring, fabric cut outs revealing sheer or skin, elegant nipped in waists with hems kicking out over the hips and a range of textures from furs and sheers to feathers and layers.

Later that day, Sass & Bide presented a monochrome collection with graphic prints and African shapes and patterns playing a major part along side the gorgeous grey zebra stripes of pieces like this draped dress. Cut outs for both sheer and skin also made an appearance on their catwalk alongside fur, lace and leather and some fabulously elaborate, wonky geisha hair.
