Saturday saw Alexander Wang taking tailoring up a gear with Wall Street pin stripes making their way onto everything from traditional tailored suits to maxi skirts and minidresses. The colours were muted darks with velvet and leather textures alongside cut out tops and some serious ruching.
Rachel Roy’s collection of browns, golds, blacks and greens was elegant and refined with the oomph provided by sheer fabrics, the odd plummeting neckline and a pair of slightly dominatrix-y leather gloves for every model. Herve Leger seemed to attract just row upon row of beautiful women, drooling over the designer’s signature sleek dresses developed with elaborate stitching and lacing and updated from the original bandage style with flashes of metallics, cut outs and structuring, often around the hips. Jason Wu’s paint splattered fabrics, gold leaf and sheer polka dots sat well alongside the masculine tailoring and the models in some of the more elaborate creations looked positively delighted (and a little smug) to be wearing them down the catwalk.

Victoria Beckham made some headlines on Sunday with her collection of sleek, fitted silhouettes varied by elegant belting and draping. The show was entirely made up of dresses and you could see VB being snapped in each one of them which gave the whole thing an air of authenticity, added to by the look-a-like models in oversized sunglasses. I was actually quite impressed. Another dress devotee, Diane Von Furstenberg brought colour and texture to the catwalk in abundance with feather-layered dresses, metallics, ruffles and sheers mixed in with that city tailoring, bold prints and some unapologetic headwear. Finally, Erin Featherstone’s models, fringed in her own image, trotted out more bold prints and tailored jackets and trousers as well as some gorgeous gold metallic dresses and delicious sheers in black and orange.
