DJ and producer Subfocus is one of drum n bass's most interesting talents. A relentless perfectionist with a serious ear for detail, releases are often delayed months if not years to bend to a fine tuning process that produces a some of the tightest production out there. He's also one of very few drum n bass producers to successfully embrace Electro sounds - particularly his electro-fied synths - and some of his tracks veer more towards a Daft Punk funk than they do faithful drum n bass. Album track Vaporise picks up on these synths over a crisp, full drum n bass beat and Deep Space has a disturbingly delightful echoey atmospheric sample set over some driving drums and heart-beat hyping synths. Whilst drum n bass may not be everyone’s cup of tea this style is much easier to enjoy and a good entry point as its lighter on the gnarl, more fun and less likely to make your internal organs bleed.
